1.2 How long do SSDI benefits last?

You will continue to receive Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) benefit payments for as long as you are disabled and meet all other eligibility requirements. The benefits can be terminated if the Social Security Administration (SSA) finds you no longer have a disabling impairment due either to work at the Substantial Gainful Activity (SGA) level or medical improvement.

If you are still eligible when you reach full retirement age, disability benefits will automatically be converted to retirement benefits.
