7.3 What is the State Vocational Rehabilitation Program?

For many years, state vocational rehabilitation (VR) agencies have assisted people with Social Security Disability Insurance and Social Security Income benefits obtain jobs. VR agencies furnish a continuum of services to help people with disabilities become employed and remain employed. These services include assessment and evaluation of their employment goals and potential, counseling, training, coaching, job placement, employer development, and other services that are needed to return to work or to enter a new line of work. VR services are paid for through state and federal funds. The VR agencies often partner with other local programs in providing specialized services.
